Visit Upper Eden

Cycling in Upper Eden

Explore a delightful cycling network of off road/MTB and quiet country lanes.

The C2C (Sea to Sea cycle route) is now 20 years old,  there is talk of an official C2C diversion route through Brough, watch this space.  The W2W (Walney to Wear) cycle route uses a different way to cross the country coast to coast finishing at Whitby or Sunderland and passes through Kirkby Stephen.

The Pennine Bridleway is a 205 miles (330 Km) long National Trail running through the Pennine hills from Derbyshire to Cumbria. It has been specially designed for horse riders, and is also great for mountain bikers and walkers. The route was opened in stages with the full 205 mile route opened by Martin Clunes in June 2012.

There are many local cycle routes on quieter village country lanes. The free Appleby and Kirkby Stephen Cycle Guide provide a few options in the area. Many bed and breakfasts cater for cyclists with somewhere safe to keep your bike.
