Bryson’s Bakery

Bryson’s craft bakery started hand baking bread from locally milled flour over 60 years ago at the original shop and bakery on the same site as the Keswick bakery and shop now stand. It is a family owned business which has recently purchased Appleby Bakery including its outlet on Market Street in Kirkby Stephen.

Local specialities unique to this business include Lakeland Plum Bread, Borrowdale Tea Bread, Westmorland Fruit Cake and Cumbrian Fruit Cake all made to old and secret recipes.

This building pre-dates the neighbouring buildings of the Old Croft House, Market Place Antiques and the Pennine Hotel and is probably 17th century. There are two interesting rainwater heads, the first which refers to the marriage of Thomas and Agnes (Dixon) Titley is dated 3 June 1807 and the second is dated 1816.
