Visit Upper Eden

How to get here

Kirkby Stephen and the Upper Eden is predominantly rural with no theme parks and big attractions, visitors come here for the scenery and unpolluted fresh air.

Walkers enjoy the authentic experience not contaminated by commercialism as in the hotspots of the Lake District but still offering varied walking country and spectacular countryside. Children enjoy freedom and traditional countryside adventure.

Kirkby Stephen is a very small Market Town with the main trade – still primarily agriculture – being conducted in the auction mart where they sell, sheep, cattle and horses, an experience in itself especially the special historical sales like Luke’s Fair and Cowper Day.

We hope you enjoy what we have to offer, including our quirky shops and small businesses.  Above all enjoy the peace, air, landscape, friendly people, heritage and wild life and go home rested and relaxed.

Ideally located off major routes, getting here couldn’t be easier – you’ll be able to arrive relaxed and raring to go, whether travelling by road or rail.
